The Kirsten Lab is a unique research group for Medical Data Science, currently located at the Institute for Medical Informatics, Statistics and Epidemiology of the Leipzig University. The lab is included in different research projects establishing infrastructures for medical research and clinical use as well as analyzing patient data with respect to several research questions and diseases. Both pillars are reflected by the research topics we are working on.
While all research activities are carried out at the university, the lab is included in the transfer of research results into practical (clinical) solutions including training. In this regard, the lab is affiliated with the Department Medical Data Science as part of the Medical Informatics Center of the University of Leipzig Medical Center. Additionally, the Kirsten Lab is also affiliated with the Mittweida University of Applied Sciences; this is due to the former work of Toralf Kirsten.
As part of the German and international medical data science community, the Kirsten lab is included in different initiatives, such as the German Medical Informatics Initiative (MII), the German Network University Medicine (NUM), and the German National Research Data Infrastructure consortium for health and study data, NFDI4Health.
